This document is a guide to administering the Majordomo e-mail list software located on the ServiceUSA.org domain.
What is Majordomo?
Majordomo is e-mail list
software for UNIX servers. It is similar to, but not the same as
LISTSERV software. While Majordomo is not as full-featured as
LISTSERV, it is freeware. LISTSERV is a commercial product.
Why is there a size restriction on posts to ServiceUSA
lists?
Since Majordomo does not have an attachment blocking feature, it
is necessary to restrict total message size. This is done to keep the
server from being overloaded, as well as to prevent the spread of viruses
via e-mail.
To add someone to a ServiceUSA list, you'll need to
send an e-mail to listname-request@serviceusa.org and supply the list
admin password. For example, if your list's posting address is
somelist@serviceusa.org and your password is
some123, your e-mail might look like this:
To : somelist-request@serviceusa.org
Cc :
Attchmnt:
Subject :
----- Message Text -----
approve some123 subscribe newperson@yahoo.com
end
To remove someone from a ServiceUSA list, the method is very similar to adding:
To : somelist-request@serviceusa.org
Cc :
Attchmnt:
Subject :
----- Message Text -----
approve some123 unsubscribe newperson@yahoo.com
end
Can I include multiple commands in one e-mail?
Sure. Put each command on a separate
line and put "end" on the last line.
Can people add themselves to the list?
Yes. They can send an e-mail to the request
address that would look something like this:
To : somelist-request@serviceusa.org
Cc :
Attchmnt:
Subject :
----- Message Text -----
subscribe somelist
end
How do I see who's subscribed to the list?
Send an e-mail to the request address using
the "who" command. In the example above, the body of the e-mail would look like this:
approve some123 who
end
What ways can the list be customized?
The following features
can be added or removed from a ServiceUSA list:
